The Open Air Museum of Lithuania in Rumsiskes is spread over a 175 ha area in a picturesque location near the Kaunas man-made sea and Praviena rivulet. Among the 140 buildings that the museum houses are farmsteads with cottage gardens and fruit orchards (some even with life animals of old, traditional breeds), villages and town buildings that were constructed 200 years ago and earlier. They give visitors insights into life, construction techniques and equipment used by people during various periods of Lithuanian history.

Many of the articles on display are restored household items and furniture, clothes, kitchen utensils and tools typical of particular periods. The museum also invites interactive live expositions where weavers, wood carvers, potters and other craftsmen participate. The museum hosts regular exhibitions of individual folk artists, and hosts concerts of folk groups on weekends and holidays.
