Among other cultural priorities of the ancient capital of Moldavia, a special place is granted to the setting up, in 1856, of the first botanic garden of Romania, by the physician and naturalist Anastasie Fatu. The Garden shows Romanias Romanian flora and vegetation for the most representaives regions: Moldova, Transylvania, Banat, Muntenia, Oltenia and Dobrogea. In the center of the Romanian Flora and Vegetation section there is an artificial lake having a 2,1 ha area.

The ampelographic collection has 0.4 hectares and is built-up as an intensive system of grapevines. The collection includes the European grapevine (Vitis vinifera), represented by 20 species.

The utilitarian plants section presents approximately 1,1 ha area and is situated on the central plateau of "A. Fatu" Botanic Garden. The section is divided in nine subsections. The visitor can know and recognize some valuable plants species used or probably to be used in health protection, alimentary, cellulose and paper industry or textile industry. These nine subsections are:
- Medicinal plants sub-section
- Toxic plants sub-section
- Aromatic species sub-section
- Pabular and melliferous plants sub-section
- Tanning and tinctorial plants sub-section
- Textile and cellulosic plants sub-section
- Plants containing caoutchouc and resins
- Alimentary and oleaginous plants sub-section
- Plants used for soils fastening

- March - Octobrer: Everyday: 9 – 20
- November - February: Everyday: 9 – 16
Attention: The year round Monday and Wednesday – the greenhouses are closed.
